🇺🇸 May 11, 1969 – The Battle of Hamburger Hill Begins On this day, the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division launched the first assault in what would become one of the most intense battles of the Vietnam War. Over 10 days and 12 grueling assaults, U.S. forces fought their way up the heavily fortified hill—finally securing it on May 20th. Today, we honor and remember Private First Class Milton Arthur Lee, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary bravery during the Vietnam War. On April 26, 1968, near Phu Bai, Pfc. Lee risked his life above and beyond the call of duty. Despite the intense enemy fire and sustained wounds, he single-handedly assaulted enemy positions, saving the lives of his comrades and ensuring the success of his platoon’s mission. His heroic actions reflect the highest traditions of military service and continue to inspire us all. Pfc. Lee was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and was laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
